Here at the South Milwaukee Fire Department, our commitment to the community goes beyond emergency response. In addition to fighting fires, we also take on the cold to ensure our local residents and children stay warm during the harsh South Milwaukee winters. In collaboration with the School District of South Milwaukee, we identify schools in the greatest need—particularly those without access to special funding or other charitable donations. Our focused efforts help provide warm coats to students during the winter season, demonstrating another way the dedicated men and women of our department serve our community every day. The mission of our "Warm Up Winter" initiative is to respond to local needs, championing community risk reduction initiatives, promoting fire safety and prevention, and delivering meaningful support to burn survivors, firefighters, and the broader community.
